1/13/2006:
We enjoyed the beautiful cabin with its cozy and comfy atmosphere on Friday and part of Saturday. Then the interesting part of our stay began. At around 7:30 pm we realized that the heat was no longer running. After many attempts to fix it, we settled into an evening with blankets, sweaters and sitting close to the fire. Then at about 9:00 pm the electricity flickered, faded and then went off! So we played games by candlelight and went to bed with 4 blankets. By 10:00 am, the electricity returned, but still no heat. So as I write this, my husband and I are sitting on the hearth, wrapped in blankets with 2 fire logs blazing behind us. Thank you for a restful, memory filled weekend.

This wooden structure seems to lack many of the technologies that we enjoy aboard the
Enterprise, yet I get this sense of calmness and peacefulness that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the known Universe. I may have to explore this place more.

As the sun escapes through the trees, and a light breeze whispers the morning melody to the awakening animal life, you begin to hear the lyrics of the day to come.
Curled-up, wrapped in a layer of warmth, with the familiar coffee aroma lingering pleasantly under your nose and cupped in the palm of your hand, you add to the melody a deep yet soft sigh.
On that note your eyes pan again to all that lies around you with awe. You hold onto that awe so tight, every ounce of you feels it radiate the sensation of familiarity. It comes streaming through you, so you find yourself realizing that curves your lips have made into a very simple, content and warm smile.
Ahh—I sat down today to write to you. Before my hand could even begin to express all that my heart and mind felt water had escaped my eyes.
Sigh. The Forest House is a wonderful—marvelous—Breath Full of Smiles.

We were surprised to see a wonderful basket waiting for us when we finally were able to get into the house (after forgetting the key code to the house). The Forest House was truly a lovely retreat and full of the sounds we wanted to hear. The owls hooting at dusk, the locust lullaby, the buzzing hummingbirds, the whistling train. It has been a lovely birthday weekend! Thank you for the cards (Maddie, I really liked yours J). We visited King’s Gap, though the visibility was poor due to the wet weather. Then we ventured to
Carlisle, ate lunch, and walked around historic downtown. Finally, we made our way back to the Forest House (getting lost along the way!), and while driving we saw the most beautiful rainbow. Liam even swears he saw a black pot with some gold gleaming!
When we arrived back here, the kids explored outside and Sean make a lovely fire in the fireplace. We settled in for a cozy evening watching a Star Trek flick. It was a great place to celebrate my 40th birthday.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Squires,
This was one of the most memorable, relaxing and comfortable weekends, birthdays, anniversaries and vacations for me and my family ever!! Your “homey” warm and inviting cabin has confirmed to us that we will be building our own in the very near future! Thank you for allowing us to share some of this peace and solitude with our families—they loved it as much as we did. Through 22 years of marriage, we have come up with many goals and future plans, but this gave us one of the most exciting to plan—our very own tranquil spirit fulfilling oasis.
Great Kitchen! I love to cook and this was treat—reminded me a lot of my own kitchen. It snowed both mornings here and that was “icing on the cake” to our dream mountain retreat. We’ve never taken a vacation so close to home, but this was one of those times that made us escape our hectic daily routine and appreciate our own “backyard” and the wonderful nature that is always here waiting to be noticed, appreciated and enjoyed!! Your hospitality is truly and greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
The Sennett’s—Shawn, Annette, Natasha

Hello!
We just returned from an amazing weekend stay at the Forest House. I just wanted to say thank you for an absolutely incredible opportunity. Your home is beautiful! The area is so quiet and secluded....just the right setting for a weekend of relaxing. The house itself is just simply beyond words. You surely didn't cut any corners during construction......high end appliances, the furnishings, lighting/plumbing fixtures, etc..... fantastic! You've thought of every last detail (soaps, detergents, toilet paper, firewood.........) right down to the personalized note and snack waiting on the counter. Needless to say, it was a heavenly weekend stay for us. We REALLY enjoyed your home, and with NO DOUBT will be repeat visitors.
Thank you again for sharing your fantastic home! We'll be back!

Trees: I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed against the earth’s sweet flowering breast;
A tree that looks at God all day, and lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear a nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately live with rain.

Escaping from our busy schedules and coming here surrounded by nature’s beauty is exactly what our family needed. Thank you for sharing your lovely log home with us on Easter weekend. The kids were thrilled that the Easter Bunny found “The Forest House” and left a bunny trail of surprises. Matt and I sat by the fire out back while the kids enjoyed an Easter egg hunt. They said that this was their best Easter ever!
Your home is beautifully decorated and truly charming. The best part of all was being able to relax whether it was rocking on the front porch, sitting by the fire eating smores, or listening to soft music while enjoying a glass of wine. It provided us with a wonderful atmosphere for our family to connect without any outside distractions. We’d love to come back.
Thanks again!!!

Burt and Janet:
Thanks to our wonderful daughters, we were able to spend our 44th wedding anniversary here at The Forest House. It is so beautiful, quiet and restful. Everything is decorated so lovely. We spent many hours rocking on the front porch listening to the birds. We really did not want to leave. Thank you for our snack and drink. We enjoyed them.

Burt and Janet,
It has become a summer pilgrimage to The Forest House. This is our third year and our third visit. Obviously, this has become a home away from home. We hope you will have us again next year. We have come to love your “home away from home” as ours as well. This is an undiscovered country here on
South
Mountain.
This place is wonderful!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to share your little piece of heaven. We so enjoyed the scenery, the walks, King’s Gap and the historic little town nearby.
The best part---the rockers and porch with nothing to do!
We’ll be back soon!

Burt and Janet,
I can’t thank you enough for the very special time and place to “de-stress”. I am the primary care giver for my 90+ grandparents and I needed a BREAK! Fresh air, beautiful mountains and quality time together. You couldn’t wish for anything more. The cabin is beautiful. We would like to retire to something just like it in a few years.
Thanks for the snack. I had to stop Doug before he ate the whole bag.

We have been looking for a getaway in this area for years. This really hit the spot. Yeah—for web searches! We took the Jeep up along
Ridge Road and got some beautiful photos.
We also ventured out to King’s Gap, Carlisle antique shops, Boiling Springs Tavern, Mount Holly Inn, Waynesboro, Chambersburg, Fayetteville and STILL had time to kick back and enjoy the stars and a bon-fire.
We found $1 DVDs at the Village Market and had a relaxing reprieve from the world news.
Thanks for the thoughtfulness you put into this home. It was most appreciated.

We had a wonderful weekend away from the city. Just the right balance between my wife’s preferences and my own---surrounded by nature, but not in a tent---but far from a hotel. It was great.
Thanks much,

Burt and Janet,
Thank you so very much for sharing your cozy cabin with us. It was the perfect place to celebrate our 15th anniversary together. It was so wonderful to enjoy this place where you seem to have thought of everything. Our boys were happy to discover the toy box.
We found the move selection to be perfect for our entertainment. Thank you for providing everything. It was so nice to visit without the stressful packing/unpacking procedure. That alone was a great blessing.
We’ll look forward to returning.

We had a wonderful time here, celebrating our 2nd anniversary, my last week of maternity leave, and our 1st family vacation! The whole “no cell phone service, no email” was exactly what we needed to unwind and relax. Aside from a house phone call at 2:30 am and feeding our little one every 2 hours, this was a wonderfully restful weekend.
Love the atmosphere and the fireplace!

What a wonderful way to spend my 40th birthday! A cozy “cabin”, my husband and 5 children, and a snow storm! There were 10 inches of lovely fluffy white stuff to play in. Movies, games, lots of snacks---all in front of a nice, warm fire.

No better way to spend the weekend with my fiancé. This was the perfect escape from work and the city.
THANK YOU!
Our visit here without a doubt brought Danielle and I closer together. All of our stress from our daily lives all melted away while sitting in front of an amazing fire with a chilled bottle of white wine and holding one another. When you first walk in you can feel how much joy is in the house from all the wonderful memories that have been made in it---I am so glad Danielle and I got to make our own.
We will definitely be back.

This was by far one of the best weekends we have ever had together. We recently got engaged (New Years Eve) and this was a perfect getaway to celebrate our engagement! NO cell phones, no cable—PERFECT.
We were able to just enjoy each other without all the hustle and bustle of everyday life! I think we sometimes take each other for granted, but when you come to such a beautiful, perfect home like this, it makes you realize how very much you love each other!!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. We plan on coming back to celebrate my birthday in March and also another getaway weekend with friends in July!!

Burt & Janet,
Hello. This is our first ever log cabin experience and also our first time ever staying in the mountains. Both were wonderful! We were here in celebration of my wife Rebecca’s 30th birthday. She actually located your beautiful, cozy cabin on the Internet. We’re glad she did! There are so many things we really enjoyed about this experience, but especially the creativity in designing your cabin. We definitely plan to return many times, God willing! We will try to return again in the winter so we can utilize your nice fireplace.
Thanks also for the snacks! God Bless You!

We enjoyed the peaceful setting in the Forest House. We looked for a good whiled to find a very good getaway. The kids and I had fun fishing in the lake. The fish were really biting. The rainy weather kept us indoors the balance of the time. We enjoyed playing games and watching movies together. We saw a deer cross the road and noticed it had very large spikes. It was a very nice couple of days to be together as a family with no phones, computers or TV.
Thank you for making this possible.
God Bless You,
Donna, Scott, Ashley and Brandon Heisey
